Butterfly & Frog

The Sensitive

Deep sensitivity, intuition, and the courage to feel with clear edges.

Every birth date carries a structure, a design that has been with you since you arrived. The 11 is one of its notes, and a master number. In this method the 11 is the Butterfly and the Poison Dart Frog, the Sensitive: the theme of deep sensitivity, intuition, and transformation. Here is what the 11 asks of you, where it shows up in your life, and what it looks like in its light and in its shadow.

Where it appears

Is there an 11 in your birth date?

The 11 can sit in several places, and each one colours a different part of your life.

The gift

The strength of the Butterfly and Frog

The 11 is the number of the Butterfly and the Poison Dart Frog. The butterfly's gift is to live out how transformation works, from caterpillar to butterfly; it shows how light life can be, and spreads the spark of joy. Butterflies are highly sensitive. Where as a child they often felt very different, alone, not quite able to be themselves, the caterpillar, after their development they become a beautiful, inspiring butterfly that dances with life. The theme of the 11 is transformation: from caterpillar, to cocoon, to butterfly.

The 11, the butterfly, is especially good at using its sensitivity one to one. It senses at once where another could give attention in order to grow, and guides people as a sensitive coach through their development. It can name the tender point quickly; done unasked and out of nowhere, that can unsettle people, so timing and care matter. In potential the 11 is an enormously wise and inspiring person, most of all when it dares to undergo its own transformations.

The body layer

Where the 11 lives in the body

In Soul Design Atlas each theme is more than a number: it arrives as an animal, a colour, and a place in the body. The Butterfly and Frog live at the Causal, behind the head.

The Causal, behind the head. The receiver of what is unspoken.

When the Causal is awake

You receive what is left unspoken in the room, and what no one in the room has spoken at all. Words arrive almost finished, insights drop in as if they were already there waiting, and you trust the knowing. The reception is soft, receptive; you do not go and get the information, you let it come. You know which signals are yours, which arrived with someone else, and which came in through the back of your head from the larger field, and you let each be what it is without taking it on. The butterfly does not stop the storm; it shows that there is still air beside it.

Two shadows, one root

The borrowed storm. The butterfly trying to hold the storm in its wings. Your antenna is wide open and you have forgotten you could narrow it. Everyone's feelings come into your body and you cannot tell them from your own. You wake up sad and an hour later realise it was a colleague's sadness from yesterday. The wings were never made to hold weather, so they tear, and the body carries someone else's storm instead of its own meaning.

The poisoned skin. The frog whose skin has turned to poison to keep the world out. After enough years with no shoreline, the system flips: the same exquisite reception now manufactures defence. The neck goes rigid, the body inflames against itself, and small things land hard. You isolate to protect everyone, and the isolation becomes another layer of poison. The frog's defence was meant for moments; it became a life.

One leaves the receiver wide open until the storm tears the wings; one slams it shut so hard the closing itself harms. Stay permeable to what wants to pass through, without becoming what is not yours to carry. The receiver has a switch; learn it.

A practice that meets this

Through the day, when a feeling, an insight, or a sudden mood arrives that seems out of nowhere, pause for one breath and ask the body silently: is this mine? Do not rush to answer. The body usually knows at once, either a recognition, mine, or a slight borrowed quality, received. You are not shutting things out; you are remembering what is yours to carry, and what is not.

The Work

Lessons and challenges

You may not recognise yourself in any of this yet, or not fully. Perhaps the 11 is not active in your current season, or it sits in your destiny number, waiting. At home, where you feel safe, you may set boundaries easily and show how you feel; at school, at work, in some rooms, you please more and show less of how you actually are.

Something is in the way. The 11 also carries its lessons, and they arrive as friction and resistance. You attract difficult people and difficult situations. For a long time I placed the cause outside myself, and took no responsibility for the circumstances I was in. Now I know I drew those people and situations toward me in order to learn something. They are trainers, and they are training. Meet the training consciously and you can learn the lesson. Once it is learned, the friction is no longer needed, and where it once felt heavy, you can begin to move with it.

Young butterflies are highly sensitive to atmosphere and to others' emotions, sometimes taking those emotions on without noticing, and life becomes a wave motion, one month heavier than the next. The work, and it is essential, is to learn to manage your energy: how to open and close to what comes in from outside, how to clear your energy, how to cut the cords between you and others. Otherwise you carry other people's emotions and wake tired after a long night's sleep. When life feels heavy and you feel like a caterpillar again, it is time for a cocoon: choose rest, solitude, a walk alone, so the good questions and clear insights can come. Then you crawl out as a butterfly, and life is lighter again.

During the swings, the poison dart frog sometimes comes out: when the bucket is full it explodes from nowhere, or implodes and goes silent for hours or days, usually where you feel safest, at home. So set your boundaries in time, especially outside your safe context, so anger does not build into rage. And watch the flight into addiction, drink, food, screens, worry, when you are not yet aware of what your body and intuition are trying to tell you. A meditation, a walk in the woods, or a mindfulness practice helps you become aware of the theme that is actually asking for the next step.

Feel deeply, with clear edges.

Out in the world

The 11 in work and career

Many elevens find their joy in a real conversation where they can be entirely themselves, and they treasure a deep one-to-one connection on the level of the soul. They are endlessly curious about personal development, spirituality, and energy, gathering new experiences and applying them to their own growth, so that they can then help others through theirs.

Think of the word sherpa: someone who helps now and then on your journey of discovery, asking good questions, making you aware of the landscape, the possible paths, and the challenges that wait there, without walking in front or taking the challenges on for you. You find many elevens as coaches, team leads, personal carers, and energetic or holistic therapists.

Watch the pitfall: overwhelm, and the swings that come with high sensitivity. The growth is to feel deeply with clear edges, to tend your energy, and to give your gift one to one without being overrun by it.

Begin with your own design.

Your birth date is enough to meet your first archetype. From there, Your Atlas reads the whole of you.

Frequently asked

The number 11, in short

Quick answers to the questions people most often ask about the 11.

What does the number 11 mean in numerology?

In numerology the 11 is a master number — transformation, sensitivity and intuition — with the 2 sounding beneath it. In Soul Design Atlas it is the Butterfly and Frog, the Sensitive: deep sensitivity, intuition, and the courage to feel with clear edges. It is received at the Causal.

Isn’t numerology just your life path number?

Most people meet numerology through a single number — usually the life path number (what we call the destiny number), the digit your whole birth date reduces to. That number is real, but it is only one note. Soul Design Atlas reads the full combination: every number in your birth date, where each one sits across the seasons of your life, and the animals, colours and body layers that belong to them. An 11 as your destiny number reads very differently from an 11 that only colours your youth, or one that runs through your whole life as a common thread. The richness is in the pattern, not in the single digit.

What animal and colour represent the number 11?

The 11 is the Butterfly and the Poison Dart Frog. It is a master number, with the 2 sounding beneath it — the theme is transformation and a heightened sensitivity.

Where does the 11 show up in your birth date?

The 11 can sit in several places. Born in November? It is active in your youth season (0–28). Born on the 11th? It colours your adult season (28–56). Born in 2009 or 2018? It speaks in your senior season (56+). If your day plus month adds up to 11, the 11 is your common thread; if your whole birth date adds up to 11, it is your destiny number. The 2 always sounds beneath it.

What are the strengths of the number 11?

The 11, Butterfly and Frog, is the highly sensitive master number of transformation and intuition — living out how light life can be, and spreading the spark of joy after its own becoming.

What are the challenges of the number 11?

The work of the 11 is to feel with clear edges. Highly sensitive, it can please more and show less of how it really is, and grows by setting boundaries and letting its sensitivity be a compass rather than an overwhelm.
